To All Regiment Leadership Candidates: All of you were fantastic candidates. Some of you were section leaders before and have not been named section leaders for next year. PLEASE do not think of this as a demotion; we have downsized the leadership – actually eliminated positions. We have not filled “your” positions with other people. The numbers we had in leadership for 2009-2010 are enough to lead a band of 140 members.
Your instructional staff is VERY excited about the upcoming school year; there are many new things going on, lots of change and progress, which is a good thing. We are planning for a surge in our musicality and musicianship throughout the year, and want to remind you that our only limitations lie within your determination – you guys proved that this year, now lets pick up on the foundations that have been laid for us, continue to raise the bar, and achieve even greater things for ourselves and those who will come after us.

PLEASE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS AND TURN THEM IN TO MR. COOKEIs it possible to be a leader without holding a position?
Is change avoidable?
Is change bad?
Is change scary?
Change takes us away from the familiar. What does familiarity breed (Google it)? How does that relate to change and to people who constantly fight for things to stay the same, the way they are used to things being?
Google this: “A good leader is always a good” (in quotes). Look at the first answer, dated October 13, 2009 (I’m really just looking for one word to finish that sentence, but what this person writes in the body of the blog is good, too!). What do YOU think?
Google this: “Leadership is” “not position” (in two sets of quotes). What is leadership? Do you agree? Why?
